My Heart Will Go On… (To the next show)

Lots to post so apologies for the length!

We did it ! The show went fantastically, and we really pulled everything together which makes me incredibly proud of our group!

But before I delve into the show at all, first I will provide a look into what has been happening outside of the Headspace show. To prepare for the interview on the live show, I interviewed 3 guests who all had different experiences to share. So here is a snippet from that session.

I learnt that I needed to engage the interviewee and that I came across like I was “having a normal conversation”. While that is suitable for some interviews, I am aware that I need to work on how I address the interviewee and to make sure to have a solid point to what I am saying. It was a great exercise and I learnt a lot from the experience.

Moving on to our Headspace Show!

Our practise sessions went brilliantly, running through the content and getting to grips with it rather quickly. Here are a few shots of me and Marshall in the various studios we rehearsed in.

I also felt that the Facebook page needed branding that was unique to the Escapism show. So I photo shopped a picture into a banner for the page. The Panda mask was meant to represent an escape, (it had just been halloween, so in this particular case, a costume or mask).

The final morning was quite hectic as someone else was in the studio before us and we had to replace a whole package! Dylan lead us to the Farmers market that was being run locally to quickly replace this broken package, which was a success! Here is a copy of our final show and the script  (without songs due to copyright issues).

Escapism Script

It was great being able to work with a team and have a show broadcasted on SirenFM! Had I had the chance to redo anything on this particular show, it would be the space of time unto which I worked in. I felt that a lot of the work was done a bit too close to the deadline and while great in quality, lead to some other content being scrapped entirely. Having a plan and sticking to it, making sure to account for losses and have appropriate backup materials is essential.

I had a brilliant time working with my team and look forward to another show!

Practising, Packages & Preparation!

With our show to air on the 12th of November. There isn’t much time to finalise all of our paperwork and content.

I feel that we haven’t done as much as we could have at this point, but that we have just enough time to pull everything together and make a brillaint show!

Having seminars with Zara have helped me broaden my view on what Radio is and how you can use that knowledge to create effective entertainment. Listening to Short-cuts the short documentary pieces, have really helped me realise what I want to get out of this show and course as a whole. A broad experience of multiple roles with industry standard equipment.

As well as listening to last years podcasts and having already listened to the Halloween show that was broadcast. Sam Kirk an ex-presenter of LincsFM came in and taught us about presenting, do’s and don’ts of radio and it generally eased my mind to know that I’d already been practising a lot of the things he listed while I was in the studio practising.

Since last I’ve posted, I have edited a package about Video games and how people use them to escape as that is the theme of our show. Escapism. I interviewed Joel Lloyns editor of The Linc Culture section and Ben Woodhouse, the president of the Lincoln Gaming Society.

Here is the Cue for that Package

After a meeting in the Library, the running order is complete! We’ve now got to finalise the script, packages and generally iron out all the small errors in all areas. I feel that the content and theme of the show is solid, and that it will create a lot of mileage for the show! After the RunningOrder was completed, I made a short trail to go live on Siren to hopefully draw in some listeners for the day.

Here is the script and draft for the Trailer

What remains is practise,practise, PRACTISE!

We have booked out Siren’s studio and the radio studios in MHT to ensure we are fully prepared for the 12th!

Hello Radio World! Facebook group and first show preparation!

Living In A Radio World

My name is Tom Kempson and I’m in my second year of university. I’m studying Media Production and this year I’m specialising in Radio & Design.

So It’s been a Year at University and it’s time for the second year to commence!

It’s been a week or two since Freshers. It’s now time to get stuck in! Our first workshop was a breakdown of what the year had in store. At first I thought it was overwhelming but it soon settled in after the first two lectures and workshops. The workshops will consist of useful practice and simultaneously we will be going live on SirenFM! This made me quite nervous to begin with, however once I went through the module guide paired with the useful lectures and workshops, I’ve reached the conclusion this’ll be an exciting year!

To kick the year off. I made a Facebook group so we could all support eachother and keep in contact for group activites.

After creating the Facebook group and becoming familiar with my group, we began meeting and discussing ideas for content and a theme for the show. But first, introducing…
